Models by Prashanth

This section is dedicated to all my aeromodelling friends and the models they have built. Just like me, there are a couple other's in Bangalore who are e-flight crazy. Numbers are growing and more and more people want to try their hands at e-powered models! More details and pics will follow soon. Stay tuned!

Prashanth's models

Prashanth has been building and flying models for a couple of years now. He started basically when I did, but we didn't know the existence of each other back then. We met at an airshow here, January last year, and since then we've been good friends. He started off on the wrong foot, just like I did, local components and heavy balsa construction. He was a step ahead then though, he'd already bought the KP00 geared motor ( Old style, Orange gears ). After we meat, he bought some 50mahr NiCd's and some U-80 props from Cloud 9RC. He then built a Thistle and that has been flying ever since! It's had some OOS flights that required a fair bit of search to retrieve, and retrieved it has been, every flight!

When he started RC, he 1st built a 32" Cessna, powered by an IPS-S1 and the Std. GWS micro radio gear. It flew quite a lot, very graceful little flier. But it was not the *PERFECT* trainer because of it's low weight, gusts of wind used to buffet it around quite a bit and it used to get tricky to control. It would have done great as a model you could keep in your boot and fly when ever you want. Prashanth is having thoughts of reviving her. I'll try and upload some pics soon. Anyway, then came the EJ-400, powered by a Speed 400 motor, direct drive on 8 KR600AE cells. This has been a regular flier ever since and has had a lot of air time. This one is the *PERFECT* Trainer, it's slow, lots of wing area, and handles a lot better in the wind. It ROG's in about 6'! I don't have many pics of the EJ-400, here are a couple of them I do have with me now:

After I built my EZ-400, a couple others expressed to me that they wanted to build it, Prashanth was next. His EZ-400 is built a little different though. Fuselage sides are from 3mm Coroplast, top and bottom parts are from 5mm foam. This results in a strong, but light fuse . Wing is hot-wired Styrofoam reinforced with a spar, just like mine. It's flown only 3 times now and is showing typical EZ-400 behavior already! Here are a couple of pics:

Here are a couple of pics of Prashanth and his Thistle, powered by a geared KP00 and 2 110mahr NiMh cells from Cloud 9RC.

Ashwin's models

Ashwin's 1st model was the Kyosho Ferias, and ARF kit that has simply out lived itself! A beautifully built model! Ashwin hasn't yet built many models, he did built a model called the "Bubbles" for a geared Speed 400, but it was way too big for the little motor. Although I've known Ashwin for many, many years ( 5-6 years maybe? ), I've know the aeromodeller Ashwin for more than a year now. The bug has bit him...and bit him good!! I have only one pic of his Ferias flying ( Oh, BTW, all you Ferias owners , throw away the gear drive and use a direct drive Speed 400 on 8 cells for super performance!! ), here it is:

This is Ashwin's IFO. What can I say? Don't the looks speak for itself? The IFO is one CRAZY flier!! He's even landed it on it's tailplane once! CF construction and Ripstop covering leads to low weight. The Kit is from Hobby-Lobby ( Check links page ). It uses a Geared Sp280 on 3 ETech 700mahr LiPo cells!! HOT HOT HOT!! Here are some pics:
